well-meaning-killer.cov.new.2011Well Meaning Killer returns to Krill Press!

Note from the publisher: Please excuse the double entendre, but we couldn't help it. These kinds of things don't come around every day you know. The fact that it's been SNOWING off and on here in Southern Oregon the last couple of days, and that a week ago today on April Fool's Day we got a surprise phone call from author Miranda Phillips Walker asking if she could come back home. Here's the backstory: Krill Press was founded in the fall of 2008 and our first title, "Absinthe Of Malice" by Pat Browning was published on December 1, 2008 and went on to be an Amazon Kindle Bestseller. Miranda Walker's "The Well Meaning Killer" was our third title, published on June 10, 2009. This awesome first novel about female FBI agent Megan McKenna, on the hunt for a serial killer in the Baltimore area, was in print and eBook for only a year before Miranda decided not to renew her contract with Krill and try her hand at going it alone. We wished her well (while kicking ourselves in the ass at the same time for only giving her a one year contract in the first place!) and kept our fingers crossed that she would be successful because that is, after all, the real philosophy behind Krill Press: to give great, undiscovered authors their first professional exposure to the publishing world and, hopefully, begin to establish a readership. With the help of her husband, prolific fiction author Robert W. Walker (and no, he didn't write her book for her!), Miranda changed her book's title to "Absolution" and published it as an eBook only. We're not sure, exactly, what's Miranda's experience has been with that venture and frankly it's none of our business. Suffice it to say that we feel LUCKY to get "The Well Meaning Killer" back and know that our readers are going to feel the same way. We have a 2 year contract in the mail to Miranda, who lives in Charleston, WV., so be watching for the return of "The Well Meaning Killer" in Trade Paperback, Kindle, and NOOK (and with brand new gorgeous covert art!) sometime in the next couple of weeks!

MIranda Phillips Walker Author Biography
mugshotMiranda Phillips Walker is uniquely qualified to pen The Well Meaning Killer, as both a suspenseful mystery and an expose of the corruption and graft in the underbelly of our Nation’s foster care programs and systems.  Walker, a Registered Nurse, also holds a Psychology degree with a minor in Sociology and has been a Registered Nurse for over seventeen years.  Her life in medicine has been far more exciting and colorful than any program on TV such as ER or Grey’s Anatomy.  Walker has a wealth of knowledge that she brings to bear on the writing of a novel of aberrant behavior and the ins-and-outs of the agencies that abuse the foster care system.  She has worked for the State Government in West Virginia, countless hospitals, and is currently working as an Emergency Room Nurse.   She has four children, and one stepson, and is married to Robert W. Walker, a prominent and inspiring author of suspense and intrigue.   She currently resides in Charleston, West Virginia, and visits family in Chicago and Baltimore often.  Miranda says of The Well Meaning Killer, “I understand the demons that drive Crusher, the killer, and I have insights into the Child Protective Services that few possess.  Going into the writing of this novel, I was armed with the right tools and weapons to make it work.  I trust that the reader will agree.  Walker lived twenty-seven years in Baltimore, Maryland and it is there she received her degrees in Nursing and Psychology.  Miranda has enjoyed writing from an early age using writing and the love of music to comfort her from her turbulent upbringing. When asked about her childhood, Walker usually laughs and says only she was really raised by a pack of wolves.  Never a person to let life knock her down she used her life experiences to help her patients and hopefully bring entertainment to her readers.

Reviews

"In her debut FBI procedural novel, Miranda Phillips Walker exhibits confidence, talent, and credibility.  Megan McKenna is an appealing heroine who is sure to be around for a long time.  A very entertaining read!"
--Raymond Benson, author of JAMES BOND--THE UNION TRILOGY

“If you love mysteries, this is a mystery you will love!”
-- Pat Mullan, a poet and writer, is a member of Mystery Writers of America and Chair of International Thriller Writers (ITW) Ireland

“ I was captured immediately by Chapter One, actually I was captured by the first sentence of the very first chapter.  As I read on, I realized that I was in good hands, the hands of a writer whose skills never intruded on the page.  That’s masterful.  Many writers never achieve that.  If I didn’t know you, and didn’t know that this is your first book, I would have attributed this work to someone with many years of successful writing accomplishment.  You’ve made Megan McKenna someone that I care about, your settings, location, relationships, internal and external conflicts are all credible.  And your dialogue is smooth and believable.
-- Pat Mullan author Circle of Sodam & Blood Red Square

Freaking Genius -- I loved it!!
“Pack up your cozies and lock grandma in the closet, Absolution is a female-driven mystery with enough hard-boiled bite to give Jim Thompson the jim-jams.  Fist-time novelist and veteran ER nurse Miranda Phillips Walker brings both the verisimilitude and the viscera to this riveting chiller.  Following world-weary female Feeb Megan McKenna on a greased skid into the heart  of darkness, otherwise known as Baltimore, KILLER tells the story of McKenna’s terrifying race through the broken foster care system to catch a hair-raising – and ultimately heart-breaking – monster of a maniac.  Readers will not soon forget Absolution, and they sure as hell better remember the name Miranda Phillips Walker.  An absolutely breathtaking debut!”

-- Jay Bonansinga, National Bestselling Author of PERFECT VICTIM, THE SINKING OF THE EASTLAND, and THE KILLER’S GAME
